Why the drive looks worse than the house
Because it’s horizontal. Water sits on it, so algae and moss take hold in a way they never do on a wall. Add tyres, leaf litter and a bit of shade and the whole thing goes a flat green-grey without anyone noticing it happen.
It’s usually the single thing making a tidy property look tired, and it’s the fastest one to change.

The safety part
A shaded concrete path with algae on it’s genuinely slippery, and the people most likely to fall on it are the people least able to afford a fall. If you have a sloping drive, a set of steps to the front door, or a path down the side of the house that never sees the sun, that’s the bit worth doing first.
The right gear for the surface
This is the one part of a property where high pressure is the correct answer, but only with a proper rotary surface cleaner. Waving a lance about is what leaves the zebra-stripe pattern you see on half the driveways in the country. A surface cleaner covers evenly and leaves no lines.
