House washing and roof moss and lichen treatment in Hamilton

Waikato humidity, still air and a lot of mature trees. Hamilton homes grow moss, lichen and mould faster than most of the country, and the shaded side always goes first. We’ve been sorting that out for 14 years, from Rototuna to Dinsdale and out past the city limits.

Hamilton is hard on the outside of a house

It’s the combination that does it. Long humid stretches, still air that never really dries a wall out, river fog through the low-lying suburbs, and big established trees over half the older streets. Mould, algae and lichen couldn’t ask for better.

What it means in practice is that the front of your house can look completely respectable while the south wall and the back of the roof are a different story. Almost everyone is surprised when we walk them round.

What we get asked for most in Hamilton

  • Roof moss and lichen. The most common job by a long way, especially on tile roofs and anything with a shaded valley or a hollow that holds water.
  • Spouting. Pine needles and leaf litter from the mature trees through Claudelands, Hamilton East, Fitzroy and the older west-side streets.
  • Driveways and paths. Shaded concrete on the south side of a section goes green and genuinely slippery over winter.
  • Sheds, barns and sleepouts. On lifestyle blocks out towards Tamahere, Horotiu and Te Pahu, the outbuildings are often the bigger job.

Brick homes and newly painted homes

A lot of Hamilton is brick, and brick largely looks after itself. If that’s you, we’ll say so rather than sell you a house wash you don’t need. Then we’ll look at the roof, the spouting and the driveway, which is where the work actually is.

Same if you’ve had the place painted recently. Leave the walls; get the gutters cleared before they spill down your new paint all winter.

How we plan the week

By suburb. We line up a day’s work in one area so we aren’t driving across the city between jobs. Ring and ask when we’re next in your street; if it’s soon, it’s a good week to get it done. The 20% is separate — book two or more services and it comes off the lot.

What we do in Hamilton

Most people get two or three of these done on the same visit, which is also how the 20% works hardest.
