Questions

Straight answers, including the awkward ones

These are the things people actually ask us on the phone. Where the honest answer is “you don’t need it”, that’s what it says.

Price

How much does it cost?

Most jobs start at $200. A standard 180 m² single-storey roof treatment starts at $250. The pricing page has the full list and explains what moves the number.

Why can you not give me an exact price on the phone?

Because it would be a guess, and a wrong guess is worse than no number. Tell us the address and roughly what the place is like and we can usually give you a sensible ballpark on the spot. The free visit is what turns that into a firm written price.

Is the 20% discount real?

Yes, and there’s a reason for it. We plan the week by suburb, so when your street is already on the run sheet we aren’t paying for a special trip. Book two or more services and the 20% comes off the lot.

Are you the cheapest?

No. There are people who will do it cheaper with a fast surface blast that looks clean on the day and is green again by spring. We price in the middle of the market for proper work, then take 20% off when you book two or more services.

Is there a pensioner discount?

The 20% applies to everyone. A lot of the people we look after are on a fixed income. If money is tight, say so when you ring. Often the sensible answer is to do the spouting now and the rest next year, and we’re happy to price it that way.

When do I pay?

After the job is done and you’ve looked at it. Not before.

Your garden, your pets, your house

Will it damage my plants? I have roses.

This is the question we’re asked most, so here’s the whole answer. We use a biodegradable wash mix at low pressure. Before we start we soak down the garden beds and lawn beside whatever we’re washing, and we rinse them again when we finish. Plain water dilution is what actually protects planting.

Pot plants, outdoor furniture and anything precious, we move or cover it with you first rather than guess. Pets and grandchildren indoors or round the other side while we work, and back out as soon as we’ve rinsed down.

Will it strip my paint?

No, and that’s exactly why we soft wash. Low pressure and a biodegradable mix means the chemistry kills the mould and the water never has to blast anything. High pressure is what strips paint, lifts flaking edges and pushes water in behind weatherboards.

Does anyone walk on my roof?

We stay off it wherever we can and treat from the edges and off ladders. Some roofs do need someone up there. If yours is one, you’ll hear it at the quote, not on the day.

I have solar panels.

We spray around them rather than over them, unless you specifically ask us to. There’s wiring under there and it isn’t worth the risk. We aren’t solar panel cleaning specialists.

What if something gets damaged?

We guarantee all our work, and we carry public liability insurance. If something goes wrong, ring us. We come back and put it right. If you’d like the insurance details before you book, just ask.

Does anyone need to come inside my house?

No. Not for the quote and not for the job. Everything happens outside.

Booking and what happens

What happens when I ask for a quote?

We ring you to arrange a time, come and look from outside for about fifteen minutes, and give you a price in writing before anything is booked in.

Do I need to be home?

Only if you want to be, and plenty of people do. The quote is done from outside, so nobody needs to come into your house.

Who turns up on the day?

A Supreme Wash wash technician, and you’ll know his name beforehand. He introduces himself, explains how your home is going to be washed, and answers anything you want to ask before he starts.

How long does a job take?

Most single-storey house washes are a half day. Roof treatments are quicker than people expect. Spouting depends on how long it has been left. Your quote will say.

What should I do before you arrive?

Shut the windows, bring the washing in, and move anything you’d rather not get wet away from the walls. If we’re doing the driveway, the cars need to be off it. We’ll tell you anything specific to your place when we quote.

What if it rains?

We ring you and move it. A roof treatment needs a dry window to go on properly, and we’d rather reschedule than do a rushed job you aren’t happy with.

I can’t make a decision on the phone.

Completely fair, and you shouldn’t have to. Get the free quote in writing, sit on it as long as you like, and ring us when you’re ready. Nobody will pester you in the meantime.

Does my house even need it?

My house is brick.

Then you probably don’t need a house wash and we’ll say so. What’s usually worth doing on a brick home is the roof, the spouting and the driveway.

It was painted six months ago.

Leave the walls. But get the spouting cleared. An overflowing gutter running down a new paint job all winter is the fastest way to ruin it.

I have always done it myself.

Good on you, genuinely. Most people who ring us used to as well, right up until the ladder stopped seeming like a sensible idea. Get a free quote for the parts you’d rather not climb to and leave the rest to yourself.

Someone already does it for us.

Then you’re sorted, and we aren’t going to try and talk you out of a tradesperson you’re happy with. If there’s a bit they don’t do, usually the roof or the shed gutters, we’ll happily price just that.

How often should it all be done?

House wash yearly. Roof treatment every two years. Spouting once or twice a year. Driveway and deck as needed. Shade, trees and sea air all pull those intervals shorter.

When is the best time of year?

Autumn, for most people. Get in before the weather turns and you go into winter with clear spouting and a roof that isn’t holding water. We work year-round though.

Do you do sheds, barns and sleepouts?

Yes, and hardly anybody asks. They are usually the jobs needing the biggest ladder, which is exactly why they’re worth handing over.

Anything we haven’t answered?

Ring and ask. We’d far rather spend two minutes on the phone than have you wondering.
