Our policy

A customised solution for your property — worked out in this order

Three rules decide what happens at your place, and the order is the whole point.

  1. The safety of you and of us

You, anyone else at the property, and the person doing the work. That is settled before the job is, every time.

  2. The safety of your property

Cladding, paint, roof, joinery, plants and paving. We would rather leave a stubborn mark than take your paint off getting rid of it.

  3. Then we get it clean

With a mix and a pressure chosen for your surfaces, so the first two still hold once we have finished.

20% off when you book two or more services There’s a further package discount on bigger jobs — worth asking about when you get your quote.

Our Services

Most people get two or three done on the one visit — which is where the 20% comes in.

Why people ring us

Usually it isn’t the house. It’s the ladder.

Nearly everyone who calls us used to do it themselves, and did a good job of it. Then the roof got steeper, or the knees got older, or there was one wobble at the top of the ladder.

You keep the garden and the jobs you enjoy. We’ll take the gutters, the roof and the two-storey wall nobody should be reaching.

“I’m past getting up on the ladder.”

Something we hear on the phone most days.
15 minutes That’s all a quote takes. Outside only, so nobody needs to come into your house.
Outside only Nobody needs to come into your house, for the quote or for the job.
A price in writing Worked out for your property, on the spot, before any work is booked in.

What it costs

Most companies make you book a visit before they’ll tell you anything. Here are our starting prices, so you can work out whether we’re in your ballpark before you pick up the phone.

Your exact price is confirmed in writing at the free quote, before any work starts. Book two or more services and the 20% comes off the lot.

How it works

Give us a call or a text, and we’ll sort out a time

That’s genuinely it. Three steps, and the first one takes a minute.

  1. Ring us or send the form

Your address and roughly what you’re after. Not sure what you need? That’s most people. Send the form instead if it’s late and you’d rather not ring.

  2. We come and have a look

About fifteen minutes, all of it outside. Nobody needs to come indoors.

  3. You get a price in writing

Worked out for your property, not read off a chart, with the 20% already taken off if you’re having two or more services done.

On the day, the person doing the work introduces himself and walks you through what’s happening before he starts.

What we actually use

The gentle way round, not the fast way round

Houses get a biodegradable mix at low pressure, so the paint stays on the wall. Concrete gets proper pressure. Timber gets treated gently. Matching the method to the surface is the whole job.

Your garden, your pets, your grandchildren

Before we start we soak down the garden beds and lawn beside whatever we’re washing, and we rinse them off again at the end. Water dilution is what actually protects your roses. Pot plants, outdoor furniture and anything precious, we move or cover with you first rather than guess.

Pets and kids indoors or round the other side while we work, and back out as soon as we’ve rinsed down.

High pressure on your walls

  • Strips paint and lifts flaking edges
  • Pushes water in behind joints and weatherboards
  • Cracks roof tiles and lifts ridge caps
  • Only removes what you can see, so it comes back

A soft wash

  • Safe on painted weatherboard, plaster, brick and aluminium
  • Kills the growth rather than hiding it
  • Keeps working after we’ve packed up
  • Concrete still gets the pressure it needs

Sometimes the answer is “you don’t need it”

We’d rather tell you that than take your money.

Brick or mud brick?

Then you probably don’t need a house wash, and we’ll say so. On a brick home the work is nearly always the roof, the spouting and the driveway.

Just had it painted?

Leave the walls alone for now. But the spouting has still been filling up all year, and a fresh paint job is exactly the thing worth protecting from an overflowing gutter.

Spouting that needs replacing?

We don’t replace spouting, but we’ll tell you honestly whether yours needs replacing or just needs clearing. Quite often it’s just clearing, and that saves you a packet.

Roof looks fine from the ground?

Roofs usually do. Moss and lichen sit in the hollows and on the shaded side, which is where they hold water and start overflowing in heavy rain. We’ll show you photos of yours.

Before and after

The bit everybody actually wants to see

Same house, same angle, taken on the job. We photograph gutter work before and after as standard, because you can’t see inside your own spouting from the ground.

Not on the list?

Ring and ask. We get out to Tamahere, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Ngāruawāhia, Horotiu and further round the Waikato often enough that it’s worth the call. If we can’t get to you we’ll say so on the phone, not after you’ve filled in a form.

Questions people actually ask us

What’s a roof treatment, exactly?

It’s how we get the moss and lichen off your roof without anyone scrubbing it. We spray the whole roof with a treatment that kills the moss, lichen and mould at the root. It dies off over the following weeks and the rain carries it away, so the roof keeps getting cleaner after we’ve gone.

It’s the gentlest way to do it. A roof that gets blasted with high pressure can end up with cracked tiles, lifted ridge caps and water pushed up under the laps. And the moss comes straight back anyway, because blasting only takes off what you can see.

Will it damage my plants? I have roses.

More people ask us this than anything else, so the answer is a long one.

The mix is biodegradable and it goes on at low pressure. Before we start we soak down the garden beds and the lawn beside whatever we’re washing, then rinse them off again at the end. Plain water dilution is what actually protects your planting. Pot plants, outdoor furniture, anything you care about: we’ll move it or cover it with you first rather than guess what matters.

Pets and grandchildren indoors while we work, or round the other side. They can come back out the moment we’ve rinsed down.

Does anyone have to get up on my roof?

We stay off it wherever we can, and treat the roof from the edges and off ladders. Some roofs do need someone up there. If yours is one of them you’ll hear it at the quote, not on the day.

If you have solar panels we spray around them, not over them, unless you ask us to. There’s wiring under there we’d rather not disturb.

What does it cost?

Most jobs start at $200. A roof treatment on a standard 180 m² single-storey roof starts at $250.

We are not the cheapest and we won’t pretend to be. Book two or more services and 20% comes off the lot, because one visit costs us less than two. Your exact price is confirmed in writing before anything starts. See how our pricing works.

Do I need to be home?

Not unless you want to be, and plenty of people do. The quote is done from outside and takes about fifteen minutes. Nobody needs to come inside your house at any point, for the quote or for the job.

My house is brick. Do I still need a wash?

Probably not, and we’ll say so. Brick and mud brick mostly look after themselves, and we aren’t going to charge you for washing something that doesn’t need it.

What we’d look at on a brick home is the roof, the spouting and the driveway. That’s usually where the work actually is. Same if you have just had the place painted: the paint is fine, but the gutters have still been filling up all year.

I have always done it myself. Is it worth paying someone?

If you’re still happy up the ladder, good on you. Genuinely. Most people who ring us have simply got to the point where being three metres up with a hose is no longer a sensible way to spend a Saturday, and the spouting has quietly gone two or three years without a clear-out.

Get a free assessment for the parts you’d rather not climb to, and a price in writing before anything starts.

How often should it be done?

Most people we look after are on a yearly or two-yearly cycle. Spouting is worth clearing once or twice a year, especially under pines or big deciduous trees. A roof treatment holds for a good year or two. Houses in the shade, down the south side, or near the coast go green faster than everything else.

Autumn is the best time to get it sorted, before the weather turns and while we can still get a dry run at it.

All the questions we get asked

Shall we come and have a look?

Give us the address and whatever you can see from the driveway. Moss on the roof, green down the south wall, spouting spilling over every time it rains. We’ll come and price it properly, from outside, in about fifteen minutes.
